Expansion joint systems

An expansion joint is an opening within a structure, at predetermined locations, engineered to absorb movement of the structure. This is the best solution to prevent from structure element's fracturing, crack formation, etc., which are caused by movement which may be defined as:

• Thermal, caused by temperature changes within the structure;

• Windload induced, caused by high winds forcing the structure to sway;

• Seismic, which is found in seismic and mining subsidence regions (caused by earthquake activity beneath the structure or vibrations, e.g. from nearby railways or performed constructional works).
