Reynobond® aluminium composite material (ACM) is a multi-layered material consisting of two 0.3-0.5 mm thick sheets of aluminium, coated in protective PVDF70/30 DURAGLOSS®, polyester or polyamide coating and bonded to a polyethylene or mineral core. The panels are manufactured in France.
Reynobond® ACM panels are especially resistant to unfavourable weather conditions, sunlight and corrosion. The surface displays a great robustness with regard to scratching and, due to its PVDF fluoropolymer coating, does not stain and is micro-biologically resistant.
Compared to cladding products made of other homogeneous materials, Reynobond® panels are much more easy to shape, perforate, bend, mould and can be used to form various architectural volumes. This means that uniform architectural shapes can be created without segmentation. There is no need for complicated equipment if you wish to bend or shape the material into a complex object or form. Because these panels are especially light-weight, installing them does not require a massive frame. The panels can be sawed, perforated, routed and bent.
In addition to standard metallic, glossy and matt colours, the company also manufactures custom-coloured panels based on any RAL colour as well as various wood, metal, stone, etc. imitation surfaces. Reynobond® panels come with a 20-year warranty.
All Reynobond® panel surfaces are coated in a protective film of choice:
PVDF 70/30 coating: This coating is considered to be one of the best coatings in the construction industry because of its durability. It is ideal for aggressive environments and extreme weather conditions.
DURAGLOSS® is a high-quality coating made of polymer plastic. It is resistant to wear, salt, moisture and UV rays. DURAGLOSS® coating technology allows the manufacturer to offer architects a surface finish ranging from matt (3% glossiness) to very glossy at 80% glossiness (whereas PVDF coating only allows a glossiness ranging from 30% to 70%).
Polyester coating: This coating demonstrates great flexibility and high performance in harsh weather conditions. It comes in a wide range of colours.
The surface is coated with a special-purpose polyamide film with a specific coating structure that protects the surface from minor scratches.
Reynobond offers panels with anti-graffiti coating, which allows the surface of the panel to be cleaned with a high-pressure water current. This is especially relevant for ground floors, which require the use of materials that have anti-vandalism properties.
Reynobond® was the first to apply dioxide technology to aluminium composite panels. This technology allows façades exposed to UV rays and rain to stay immaculately clean. Light or even white cladding can be used on façades because EcoClean technology will maintain their pristine cleanness. This will lead to substantial savings over the lifetime of the building.
Buildings are exposed to various types of pollutants. From bird excrement to diesel fumes, architectural façade panels are constantly affected by organic substances that tarnish the cleanness of their surfaces.
However, there is another organic substance that continually affects cladding surfaces and that is much more difficult to notice – NOₓ, or nitrogen oxide. As well as settling on façade surfaces and being one of the principal components of smog, NOₓ also pollutes the air that we breathe.
Alcoa Architectural Projects has developed and patented a process that uses HYDROTECT™ technology from TOTO® to apply a titanium dioxide coating called EcoClean™ to the aluminium surface of Reynobond® panels. The result is the world’s first coil-coated architectural panel that cleans both itself and the air around it.
TiO₂ (titanium dioxide) electrons are activated by UV (ultraviolet) rays and thus acquire a state of higher energy. This surplus of energy is transferred to the water and oxygen particles in the air that form free radicals. The free radicals attack the organic matter on or around the EcoClean™ panel surface.
Because of the hydrophilic surface, the organic matter can then be washed away with a very small amount of moisture, for example, with the morning dew or a light rain. This will ultimately result in lower maintenance costs for the owners of the building.
The free radicals created by EcoClean™ attack the main component of smog, nitrogen oxide, and break its molecules down into non-harmful nitrates, creating a building that cleans the air surrounding it as well as its own surface.
1000 m2 of Reynobond architectural panels coated in EcoClean™ will produce a cleaning effect equivalent to that of 80 trees. This is enough to disperse the smog forming from the pollutants that surround the building on a daily basis.
One of the most innovative ideas for marrying form and function, EcoClean™ is the perfect solution for architects and building owners who understand the advantages of self-cleaning architecture and want to consciously as well as positively influence the environment.
Alcoa began conducting titanium dioxide-related research back in 2006. A team of 50 scientists and researchers were recruited for the sole purpose of finding a way to apply titanium dioxide coating and use its cleaning properties to break down organic matter without damaging the paint layer on façade panels.
Alcoa successfully combined scientific research, the latest technology and decades of experience in the field of architecture to produce a product that positively influences the world that surrounds us.
